I've recently founded a company called GetFilmi (http://getfilmi.com) which aims to make it easier than ever to watch quality Indian cinema online. Some of you may already have checked it out & signed up; our member service just went live for $7.99 per month (with a free month to start) and I've been working with some great studios, filmmakers and distributors in Bombay and elsewhere to build our catalog through 2013.
*I'm proud to tell you that GetFilmi's just been approved for the CFC Media Lab's ideaBoost website and with your help we can be chosen to join their business accelerator program. Simply click through to our page on ideaBOOST and then the pink button to Boost GetFilmi!
(*More information on the program etc is below.)
Thank you for your support,
What Is ideaBOOST?
ideaBOOST is a business accelerator with a difference (organized by the Canadian Film Centre) -- a bootcamp for companies that want to navigate an entertainment ecosystem that has been radically disrupted by new technologies and demanding audience expectations.
How To Support GetFilmi by 'BOOSTING'!
Companies from across Canada have submitted their ideas to ideaBOOST. Now it's up to you to push GetFilmi to the shortlist. You can help us accumulate points by liking or tweeting our idea page, however, the most powerful way to show your support is to give us a BOOST by subscribing with your email address.
Submitting your email is worth 10 points, while liking or tweeting is each worth 1 point. You can only submit your email once per voting period, but you can like or tweet our idea page once a day to help us get more votes!
After BOOSTING Us...
If GetFilmi is selected thanks to your help, you will be contacted and have the chance to join this exciting process, including access to public demo nights; the ability to offer feedback on early versions of our product (yes this means watching some great Indian cinema for free - including classics like Mughal e Azam and brand new releases like Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (online next month!); and be part of the team that helps shape the future of Indian cinema as we know it!
Why are we part of ideaBOOST?
Being part of the ideaBOOST accelerator will help us develop tools we need to make it even easier for you to watch the great films you love on tablets, mobile phones and connected TVs - with planning and a little investment we are aiming to be in the Apple iTunes store with apps this July (Android, Roku, Boxee, Google TV etc to follow!)
This short film relates an organic experience of a small specialist coffee shop in downtown Toronto (which the film is named after.) Shot digitally in black and white, an attempt is made to expand the viewer's sense of time and space by including perspectives of the shop's exterior and interior - taking you through the physical space and traversing the dichotomous reality of patron and staff by moving behind the espresso bar and portraying real life spontaneous activities involving knife play and martial art practice.

KORG Kaoss Pad 3 - $250.00 CAD
I've literally only used this great effects processer and sampling unit 3 times at live gigs. Its in brand new condition and I'm selling it boxed with the original software and paper manual etc.
AKAI MPD32 MIDI Controller - $200.00 CAD
I bought this versatile MIDI Controller for live VJing purpose (although its perhaps best suited for audio sample-sequencing and beatmaking) and have used it about 5 times. Its a great unit combining pressure sensitive pads (perfect for jamming out beats on virtual drum kits) and some sliders. You can connect this unit via USB to a computer or an actual MIDI connection.
SANYO CG6 6MP Video Camera - $100.00 CAD
Originally bought at Henrys in downtown Toronto, this great little video camera does not shoot in HD but has a lot of features other small video recording devices (including iPhones etc...) just don't have - including tripod mountable, stereo audio, MPEG4 Video, 5.0x Optical Zoom, 2.5" swivel screen. It comes with all original documentation in-box with the battery + charger and an extra 2GB SD Card.
To celebrate my friend Faizal's birthday a few friends got together and headed up to Prince Edward County for two days. We rented a cute little old house in Wellington just off the main strip - luncheoned (and bruncheoned) in town, cooked a massive dinner and checked out two beaches - including Dunes beach in the Sandbanks Provincial Park. Summer fun :)
The 'International Startup Festival' wasn't on my radar in its first year and I was curious to discover whether attending could provide insight into financing options for GetFilmi (http://getfilmi.com) - a company I've founded to stream Bollywood and other Indian films online. Cautious of the event turning out to be a loosely-masked conference for first-time-student/entrepreneurs I decided that its best to give it a skip this time round as well, that is, until I read about Brydon/349's Startup Train.
When the time came to gather at VIA Rail's lounge for us to return to Toronto I think we realized that it was thanks to riding Startup Train that we were returning home with both new friends and a positive experience relating to the Festival. Brydon has talked of repeat occurrences - taking entrepreneurs, technologists and financiers on future journeys together and I look forward to going along once again for an enjoyable ride!
