You can now digitally hail an autorickshaw in India

Very interestingly, Uber has expanded the scope of its service to Indian autorickshaws – which is funny because in many parts of the country their service ubiquity has meant that you well, shouldn’t need an app to travel in one.

Uber won’t be charging any booking/handling fees and riders are expected to pay drivers in cash – seems to me they haven’t figured out their business model with autorickshaws and are trying to enter this segment of the market first and gain brand awareness to later figure out how to get paid – I wonder whether this opens up a can of legal worms though… I’ve never known rickshaw wallahs to purchase rider insurance etc…
